Confucianism should be classified more as a method of human development than a religion, although it is often treated as a religion in conjunction with the elements of Taoism and Buddhism. The purpose of this "method" is to help develop the individual's spiritual nobility, to increase self-motivation and self-control, and to develop responsibility. Confucians believe in Tai Chi, the "Great Ultimate" from which arises positive energy (yang) and passive form (yin). Burial rituals include a Willow tree branch to symbolize the soul of the deceased.
